Professional Limestone Restoration & Repairs in Houston

NextGen Surface Care provides professional limestone restoration services throughout the Greater Houston area. We restore limestone floors, showers, countertops, and architectural surfaces that have become dull, etched, uneven, or worn from everyday use, moisture exposure, and surface damage.

Rather than relying on temporary cleaning or topical treatments, our approach focuses on correcting the underlying issues affecting your limestone. Each project begins with a careful assessment to determine what your stone actually needs—whether that’s smoothing surface wear, removing etching, restoring a consistent finish, or preparing the surface for proper sealing. Our goal is simple: restore your limestone the right way and help it stay beautiful long after service is complete.

Signs Your Limestone Needs Restoration

  • Soap Scum & Mineral Buildup

Hard water, soap residue, and everyday contaminants can build up on limestone surfaces, leaving them cloudy, dull, or difficult to keep clean.

  • Filler Breakdown or Pop-Outs

Some limestone surfaces contain factory fills or previous repair fills that can weaken or break down over time. When these fillers fail, they can leave rough spots, exposed areas, or uneven texture that collect dirt and moisture.

  • Scratches & Wear Patterns

Daily foot traffic creates visible wear patterns and surface scratches. In addition improper coatings applied to the surface will wear down.

  • Etching from Acidic Products

Acidic cleaners and spills cause dull spots and surface damage.

  • Cracked or Damaged Tiles

Movement, impact, or settling can lead to cracks or unstable tiles.

If you’re noticing one or more of these issues, professional restoration can usually reverse the damage — without replacement.

What You Can Expect After Restoration

Limestone requires a careful, surface-specific approach. We start by evaluating wear patterns, moisture exposure, and existing damage, then tailor the restoration to the stone’s condition and location. Our goal is to restore balance, consistency, and function—without coatings, shortcuts, or unnecessary replacement.

  • Restoration tailored to your stone’s condition
  • Surface issues corrected, not masked
  • Finishes matched to your environment and use
  • Safe for daily living, families, and pets
  • Clear expectations and honest recommendations
  • No topical coatings like wax or acrylics that create long term problems.
Understanding Your Surface

Understanding Your Limestone Surface

Limestone is a natural stone with unique properties that influence how it wears, reacts to use, and should be properly restored.

Warm, Earthy Tones

Natural color variations create unique patterns that proper restoration enhances.

Calcium-Based Stone

Like marble, limestone is sensitive to acids and requires pH-neutral cleaning products.

Natural Porosity

Limestone’s characteristic voids require proper filling and sealing to prevent dirt accumulation.

Naturally Polishable

Limestone’s structure allows it to be polished to a beautiful shine using diamond abrasives alone.

Did you know?

Limestone used outdoors, especially around pools, faces constant exposure to moisture, chemicals, and underlying installation conditions. While professional restoration dramatically improves appearance and performance, results can vary depending on drainage, stone condition, and ongoing exposure. Our process focuses on achieving the best possible outcome while protecting the stone for long-term durability.

Polished Finish

A bright, reflective finish that enhances limestone’s natural color and variation. Polishing creates a smooth surface that reflects light and adds visual impact.

  • High light reflection and clarity
  • Best for formal or low-traffic areas
  • Shows wear and scratches more easily

Satin Finish

A balanced finish between polished and honed, offering subtle sheen without intense reflection. Perfect for those seeking elegance with practicality.

  • High light reflection and clarity
  • Subtle sheen with reduced glare
  • Soft, matte appearance with slight shine

Honed Finish

A smooth, non-reflective surface with a sophisticated matte appearance. This finish provides a contemporary look while minimizing glare and showing less wear.

  • Soft, matte appearance with no shine
  • Best for high-traffic areas
  • Common choice for bathrooms and kitchens

No. NextGen Surface Care does NOT apply or recommend topical coatings (acrylics, waxes, urethanes) on limestone. We exclusively use impregnating sealers that penetrate the stone and protect from within. Coatings trap moisture, yellow over time, peel, and create a plastic appearance that diminishes limestone’s natural beauty.

Honed (matte to low-sheen) is the most popular and practical finish for limestone, especially in high-traffic areas. It hides wear better and suits the stone’s natural character. Polished finishes are possible but require more maintenance and show scratches more readily.

Typically every 12–36 months, depending on location and use. Kitchens and high-traffic areas may need more frequent resealing. We perform a water-drop test during inspection to assess current protection and recommend a schedule.

Yes. We can strip old acrylics, waxes, and failed topical finishes that have yellowed, peeled, or become cloudy. After stripping, we hone the surface to remove residue and restore the natural stone, then apply a proper impregnating sealer.
